Located in southern Indiana in the town of Milltown is Blue River Valley Farm. This 120-acre working farm offers a chance for visitors to be involved in the farm or just sit back and do nothing. The farm is owned by Richard and Ashira Young. Richard is a state senator for a large portion of southern Indiana and together the couple opens the historic house to you for as long as you would like to enjoy the peaceful quiet of farm living. The whole house is yours.
The House
Your home away from home is a renovated 100-year-old farm house with three bedrooms, one bath, eat-in kitchen, covered deck with a gas grill and hot tub and nature's secluded peacefulness. There is additional space for camping and bring your fishing poles as the property is on the very clear and clean Blue River.
The farm has been in the Young family for more than 50 years and Richard and Ashira live down the hill from the farmhouse. Upon selling a home in Indianapolis, the Youngs were using the farmhouse to store furniture and decided to renovate it. One thing lead to another and it became a very expensive storage facility as Ashira said. It was then that the couple thought of using the house as a vacation rental, and as they say, the rest is history.
What to Do
The Youngs open their historic home to you, but it is up to you what you want to do. Kick back and enjoy the 52-inch TV, fish, sit on the back porch or tour the surrounding area where you will find many “things to do”. Outdoor Adventure Packages are available that can include canoeing, caves and hiking or visit Cave Country Canoes, Marengo Caves or Squire Boone Caverns on your own. There are seven wineries, two casinos, the first capitol of Indiana, Historic Corydon, Holiday World, and Paoli Peaks for winter skiing.
Great for Kids
Blue River Valley Farm is a great place for kids. This is a unique place for your family vacation or your family reunion. Children can learn how to milk the goats, collect eggs, and pick seasonal berries and organic vegetables. Ashira said, “It helps children and adults alike to get back to the roots and learn the origin of foods."
Romantic Getaway
Great for a romantic getaway, cozy up near the wood burning stove and enjoy the privacy of country living. Look into the Wine Lovers package.
Winter, spring, summer or fall it is your retreat away from home where a memorable trip awaits.
